Google nexus one can be rooted for access to tethering and other applications. You can install a lot of applications from the Market with more capabilities means you will be able to modify the phone's firmware to have anything like themes, applications, custom ROM. MoDaco member paul claims to have created Superboot(boot.img file that automatically roots the Android 2.1 OS the first time it is booted.
Here are instruction how to use Superboot with Windows Linux and OSX(MAC).
- Download the Superboot zip file and extract it to your desktop. Click Here for download.
- Put your device in bootloader mode. Turn it off, remove battery, plug in USB cable, When battery icon appears onscreen, replace battery then tap the power button while holding Camera key.
For Windows: Double click "install-superboot-windows.bat"
MAC: Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type ‘chmod +x install-superboot-mac.sh’ followed by ‘./install-superboot-mac.sh’
LINUX: open a terminal window to the directory containing the files and type ‘chmod +x install-superboot-linux.sh’ followed by ‘./install-superboot-linux.sh’
