1: Start "Cydia" on your iphone
2: Tap on " Manage " button
3: Now Tap on "Sources"
4: Tap on "Edit" button
5: Now Tap on "Add" button
6: You will now prompted to enter a source url. Type "http://blackra1n.com" and touch on "Add Source."
7: Cydia will now update your sources by following a series of automated steps.
8: After installation "search" for "blacksn0w" in cydia and install.
9: This will automatically unlock your iphone, now you can use this with any carrier or sim.

be careful using this..... my iphone 3G hung after trying this and i was forced to do a painful restore
Restore it back to 3.1.2 and then use PwnageTool 3.1.5 for jailbreak. I have tried it and it working 100%.
@whatsinmyhead: This only works iphone 3GS and 3G firmware 3.1.3 and baseband 05.11.07 (not with latest baseband)So give all details what you did. so may it help others.
